Artist Statement
As an artist, I am dedicated to creating functional and sustainable art. My passion transcends woodworking to writing and photography. The endless artistic possibilities that these combined mediums offer fuel my desire to develop and refine my skills in order to create pieces that reflect my unique perspective. I aim to inspire others with my work while contributing positively to the environment and community by providing eco-conscious choices and community-led workshops. I aspire to create pieces that last, becoming part of familial traditions and stories that pass hands through generations.
Enchanted River
Resin River pieces are one my favourites to create. With nature as my model, getting the ebs and flows just right never lacks excitement. This was the first rehomed piece at the 2021 East Side Culture Crawl.
Treasure Perch
This printer cabinet came to fruition during my Tools for Change Residency at Makerlabs. Created entirely out of scraps I found in the woodshop garbage bins, this piece represents the beginning of finer furniture art I want to create in the future.
The Hardwood Staircase
Another scrap invention, this decorative tray includes cutoffs from other boards and random end pieces. The abstract design and different grain orientations replicates nature's variability. While the planer wouldn't accept this board's diversity, the drum sander embraced it with open arms.
Olive Zebra
Hailing from Kamloops, these Russian Olive logs were salvaged from a burn pile. While the scent of burning Russian Olive can smell like overdone movie theatre popcorn, burning this beautiful material is nothing short of a horror scene. The subtle white and curling grain made the choice to turn this wood into a vessel easy.
Marbled Channels
These soap trays combine reclaimed maple with resin channels to increase durability and elegance. A family member asked me for a resin tray with drainage but their bathroom had a rustic feel. This idea came from them, a combination of timeless materials and modern design.
Paddle in the Dye
An extension for my love of sharing, taster paddles bring people to the table and facilitate finding new favourites.
Play Versatile
Whether you want to store other games, knick knacks, or your favourite refreshments, these customizable table toppers will spark conversations and create memories. This piece also shows how laser cutting can elevate pieces in design and assist an artist's time-for-execution ratio.
Dive into Resin's possibilities
Resin river charcuterie boards and decorative trays are popular items of mine. I love creating them, customizing them, and seeing folks use them because I love sharing stories and food around the table. My Mediterranean background and extroverted personality never shy away from influencing my kitchen creations, but that’s not the extent of what resin can do. It’s an invaluable tool when taking wood that would normally be discarded and creating fun, functional, and even heirloom pieces that will carry stories for years to come.
9th Floor Burl
Before starting at Makerlabs I had very few tools to work with. I hand planed and sanded this piece in a family member's garage for many hours before giving it a few layers of resin finish. I wanted something beautiful but elemental in my apartment, and when I found this slab for sale on marketplace, the story began.
